How Neil Newman Can Help

Are you plagued by...

mottling, poor formation, cockle, calender cuts, baggy edges, curl, shadow marking, poor drainage, wrinkles, telescoping, slugs, lumps, CD channels, baring, draw, poor profile, two-sidedness, checking, cracking, crushing, blisters, wire mark, felt mark, felt filling, poor drying, or any other of a multitude of paper manufacturing defects or problems that eat into your profits? Then Contact Me!

I work exclusively with older Fourdrinier paper machines. I specialize in wet end operations, pressing, and drying. I especially enjoy working with high value add grades and more challenging machines. If you need someone to help on that "special machine" then again please Contact Me!

One of my greatest skills is working effectively with operators and plant leadership. I do it by being accessible, willing to listen and respond, and genuinely respectful of their abilities. On the employees' part, they respond positively to my knowledge, enthusiasm, confidence, optimistic outlook, and high energy level.

A past manager, when speaking of the value of employees, advised me to, "Make them feel important, and they will make you successful." That has become my mantra. I am widely respected for my ability to anticipate potential problems and to devise effective operating plans to keep facilities running, while always using a hands-on approach that is designed to impart training and knowledge to co-workers.

12/18/2009 Pinholes Pinholes in tissue grades can be reduced by blending differing fiber lengths in the stock furnish.
12/18/2009 Sheet Structure Sheet smoothness can be improved by simply taking a normal press roll cover and blind drilling in the land area of the cover.
12/18/2009 Energy Reducing press section moisture content by 1% lowers drying cost by over 4%.
01/04/2010 Sheet Properties Softwood and hardwood pulps must be refined separately to maximize target sheet properties.
01/04/20109 Operations In wet end operations the sheet will follow the smoothest surface.
01/04/2010 Fiber Technology Eucalyptus hardwood pulp has 4.5 times the number of fibers/gram than typical hardwood pulps.
01/05/2010 Drying The dimensional stability of paper can be improved by installing dryer felts in the maximum shrinkage zone of the dryer section.
2/15/2011 Papermaking: Fabric Trade Line Running any paper machine clothing, the lead side of the trade line is always loose.
3/10/2011 Papermaking: Fabric Guiding Fabric guiding principle, the fabric will run to the side of the guide roll that the fabric contacts first.
1/10/2015 Wet End Operations At a given machine speed and basis weight the headbox consistency is controlled by the slice opening. And your slice opening is determined by your ability to remove water from the fourdrinier.
